Too much of what we call "food" today is engineered to override our biology. Refeeding helps us understand what the body has adapted to, remove the harmful inputs, and create the conditions for realignment, repair, and trust.
Refeeding emerged from lived reality. After nearly two decades impacted by the Pennsylvania prison system, EL Sawyer recognized that mainstream health had no framework for a body shaped by institutional food, chronic stress, and survival-mode living.
Through rigorous research and lived experimentation, EL developed a process of removal, reframing, and rebuilding that led to the loss of 100 pounds over 100 days, documented through consistent tracking and medical oversight. He calls this process Refeeding: a framework for guiding the body back into nourishment, regulation, and trust.
EL's entry point was adaptation to traumatic life experiences. Yours may be a lifetime of processed food, family patterns passed down as "culture," or a body searching for dopamine in all the places the market has learned to place it. Different entry points. Shared biology underneath.
Who Refeeding Is For
Refeeding is for anyone whose body has been shaped by stress, difficult environments, or a lifetime of mixed messages about food, and who knows that standard health advice does not tell the whole story.
It is for people whose energy, body image, cravings, compulsions, generational patterns, or health concerns feel driven by something deeper than habit or willpower, and who are ready to reclaim agency over their body and their healing.
The wrong foods and a fast-paced life keep the body's stress hormones running high. The body looks for relief in sugar and processed food. Anything that makes us feel better, even just for a moment. This is not weakness. This is biology doing exactly what it was built to do, in a world it was never built for.
There are 262 different names used for added sugar on ingredient labels. Add decades of food myths and an industry built on confusion. Most people are fighting something far bigger than willpower. Refeeding names it.
We give the body something it has been missing: space. Read the philosophy
Refeeding brings together personalized meal plans, food education, one-on-one coaching, a free mobile app, and community support. One framework, built around you.
Built from EL Sawyer's lived experience and backed by research on how food affects the brain, how dependency forms, and why willpower was never the problem.

These terms come up a lot in the Refeeding framework. Here is what they actually mean, in plain language.
Canola, soybean, corn, and sunflower oils. They are made using high heat and chemicals, which breaks them down in ways that cause inflammation in the body. Most packaged food and restaurant cooking uses them.
Grains and sugars that have been processed to remove their fiber and nutrients. White bread, white rice, crackers, and most snack foods are refined carbs. They digest fast, spike blood sugar quickly, and leave you hungry again soon after.
Products made in factories using ingredients you would not find in a home kitchen. Artificial flavors, preservatives, emulsifiers, and added sugars are common. They are designed to override the body's natural "full" signal.
When your body stops responding normally to the hormone that manages blood sugar. The body has to work harder and harder to do the same job. This is the engine behind weight gain, low energy, brain fog, and many long-term health problems.
Chemicals added to packaged foods to make them smoother and last longer. Found in many salad dressings, jarred olives, and dairy products. Research links them to damage in the gut lining and ongoing low-level inflammation.
Your gut and brain talk to each other constantly through nerves and hormones. What you eat directly affects your mood, your energy, and your cravings. A damaged gut can drive anxiety and food dependency in ways that have nothing to do with willpower.

The rate of Type 2 diabetes among children under 17 in the U.S. has doubled in the last ten years. Food environment is a powerful, modifiable factor — and it is happening on our watch. Genetics, age, activity, sleep, stress, and access to care also influence risk.
These are the predictable outcomes. Nutrition is one of the most powerful tools for improvement and, for some, remission. Refeeding exists to make it accessible.
Between work, school pickups, and tight budgets, fast food and packaged meals have become the norm for millions of families. Not by choice. By design. When every easy option is loaded with seed oils, refined carbs, and hidden sugar, the whole household pays for it.
Kids do not just pick up our eating habits. They also pick up our blood sugar problems, our complicated feelings about food, and our confusion about what healthy even means. The processed food industry has had decades to shape those patterns. When the table changes, everyone at it has a chance to heal.
Reaching one parent can change what a child eats for life. That is not a small thing. That is generational.
Refined carbohydrates and added sugars drive chronic insulin elevation. Over time, cells stop responding, and that resistance sits at the root of weight gain, fatigue, inflammation, and dozens of conditions we have been taught to treat as separate problems.
Refeeding is not a weight loss program. Weight loss is a byproduct of healing.
Six interconnected principles built around the science of trauma, the gut-brain axis, and what the body actually needs to move from survival into recovery.
No plan works when the food system is designed against you. Refeeding names what is actually happening: stress hormones out of balance, the brain chasing quick relief, blood sugar that never fully settles. You did not design this cycle. But you can break it.
Your gut and brain are always talking to each other. What you eat shapes your mood, your focus, and your cravings. Through food and movement, we help calm the stress response, restore the gut-brain connection, and give the body what it needs to heal.
The same community that shaped our habits can help change them. Refeeding is built around group cohorts and one-on-one programs. Accountability to others is part of how healing works. And every plan is built around your biology, your history, and your goals.
Movement is brought back as something that builds you up, not breaks you down. On your terms, not as punishment. Through practices that support how the body naturally works, we rebuild trust, break old patterns, and take back control.
Poor metabolic health makes it harder to think clearly, manage stress, and sleep well. And poor sleep makes everything else harder. Consistency and rest are not extras. They are core to recovery.
No two people got here the same way, and no two paths forward should look the same. Different histories, different bodies, different goals. Every Refeeding plan is built around where you are, how you got here, and where you want to go.
